Irish Betting Sites

ireland flagBetting in Ireland is relatively common, with over one in ten of us placing a bet with a bookie at least once per week and a whopping 44% regularly playing the lottery. It should come as no surprise, therefore, to learn that online betting is completely legal in Ireland, provided you bet with a licensed bookmaker or online casino. Sticking with a licensed gambling site also ensures that your online betting is safe, responsible and fair.

We’ve compiled this guide to showcase the best betting sites for Irish customers, covering both sports betting and online casinos. Plus, for those of you who like to do your betting in person, we’ve also written guides to racecoursesdog tracks and local casinos.

Online Gambling Law in Ireland

The Gambling Control Bill was introduced in 2013 to replace the Betting Act of 1931 and the Gaming and Lotteries Act of 1956 and bring the legislation into the 21st century. Among other things this bill states that online gambling sites located in Ireland must be licensed and regulated in order to be legally permitted to accept bets from customers in Ireland.

An ammendment was tabled in 2015 to extend these rules to gambling sites who are not located in Ireland, but who accept bets from Irish customers, bringing it in line with rules implimented by other countries around the world, including the United Kingdom.

Fot this reason all of the betting websites you see listed on IrishBettingSites.com hold an up to date license. So whilst not all of them are based in Ireland (much of the online gambling world is based overseas in Malta or Gibraltar), they’re all legal and safe to play at.
